Old Church Ruins of Camiguin Island

The Old Church Ruins of Camiguin is one of the oldest and unique structures in the island. Old because it was built sometime in the 16th century. Unique because it is made from coral stones. It was later turned to ruins by the 1871 Vulcan eruption.

The old church ruins is located at Barangay Bonbon, Catarman, Camiguin. It was formerly called the 16th century  Guiob Church Ruins and maintained by the local government. The church ruins is near the town center of Mambajao, Camiguin. It is just 20 minutes away from Paras Beach Resort, where we stayed.
16th Century  Guiob Church Ruins
The Guiob Church was destroyed or turned to ruins because of the 1871 Mount Vulcan eruption. Which is now called the Old Volcano.

Inside the old church ruins compound is a small chapel. There are masses held here every week on specific times.
Small Church
I wish someone could help the locals fix the church. As you can see, the church is unfinished. There is no ceiling and you can still see the hollow blocks on some parts of the walls.

Inside the Small Church
At the back you can see the ruins of the old bell tower and old convent. These are the original structures of the 16th Century Guiob Church.

Old Convent and an old tree
There is a huge tree there that is said to be more than a century old. Nice to take photos below the tree.

The Old Church Ruins is just 10 to 15 minutes away from Camiguin Walkway  and Sunken Cemetery which was also affected by the 1871 eruption.

Overall
Great site to see and take photos. This won't take too much time.
